How to Add Links to YouTube Banner – Video Transcript

How to add links to your YouTube banner – that’s what we’ll be covering in this video, so let’s get started.

From anywhere on youtube, go up to your profile picture in the top right corner, and click to go to β€˜Your Channel’

Then, you’ll need to click on the big blue β€˜customise channel’ button.

When you hover your mouse over your banner, or your channel art, you’ll see a little edit pencil icon appear in the top right corner.

Click on the edit pencil and select β€˜edit links’.

That’s going to take you to your custom links area.

To add a new custom link, click on the ADD button.

The first box you see is for your message – which can be up to 30 characters long.

The second box is where you add your link.

You can customise how many links you want to have show up on your banner – but 5 is the maximum.

OK, here’s some important stuff to notice:

For the first link, both the icon AND the text will get displayed, but the rest of the links on your banner will only have the icon showing.

I use this first link to encourage viewers to click and subscribe to my channel on YouTube, because on YouTube that’s my priority. I made a video about YouTube subscribe links and how to make one for your channel, but basically you just take the URL of your channel and add the text ?sub_confirmation=1 to the end of it.

YouTube automatically displays the favicon that has been set by the website you link to, so make sure that the links you add are not redirects through a link shortener, or the link shortener’s icon is going to get shown instead of the destination website. This is particularly important for youtube subscribe links, because you definitely want the youtube icon to show up next to those.

Also, while you can only display 5 link icons on your banner, you can actually nominate up to 14 custom links. All of the links, as well as the link descriptions, are going to get listed on your channel’s about page – so make sure you’ve added a proper description for each one of your links.

You’ll also need to make sure that each of the custom links has to have a unique title and unique URL – meaning you can’t link to the exact same page twice and you can’t use the same text with two different links, BUT You CAN absolutely link to different pages from the same website, so feel free to list your blog’s resources page and email sign up page, as well as your home page. Just keep in mind that links from the same website are all going to show the same icon, so don’t include more than one of them in your 5 banner links.
